Dexter’s current favorite book is Where The Wild Things Are so it was an obvious choice for his birthday party theme this year. I have about 30 minutes of free time each night after the babies go to bed so I had to work on the decorations a little bit each night for almost a week before his party. A whole Sunday of “leaf cutting” with Kristen also helped kick start the decor! A few days before the party, I surprised Dexter with a life-size (Dexter-size) coloring poster of Max & The Wld Things. It was super easy to make, I just projected an image onto a huge sheet of paper and traced it with a marker. He is still coloring on it 3 weeks later!
The idea was turn the apartment into “The world all around” …
Which of course meant vines, cupcakes on branch pedestals, and marshmallows growing out of a log …
The cupcakes and marshmallow sticks were the main dish for Dexter … we coaxed him into eating a few bites of a sandwich so we didn’t feel like terrible parents.
The 5-peso birthday hats were a surprise hit … Dexter wanted to try on every color.
But the real fun came with the piñata. It simply isn’t a party without a piñata!
And last, but not least …. PRESENTS!!!
On a side note … Dexter now dresses himself. Any clothes he opened as a present, he immediately put on. I had to peel off 6 shirts before he went to bed!
I must give credit where credit is due – THANK YOU to Nikkiikkin and her post Where the Wild Things Are Party [here]. I copied just about most of it because it was just so perfect. She has the most wonderful party ideas … only 6 more months until the next Izquierdo birthday and I’m already devouring her website for more ideas!
Thank you for the link & credit! You did an amazing job with this party, I love the hanging vines & dipped marshmallows display. I’m so flattered to be an inspiration! And look forward to seeing your next party.
Awesome party!!
