Like every mother, I am convinced I have the cutest baby in the world. And so when I took Dexter in to get his FM3 (the residency visa in Mexico) photos taken, I didn’t think anything of it. In fact, I reveled in the compliments the photographer was giving me about how adorable my baby was.
You can only imagine my surprise when I picked up the photos yesterday. He looks like a convict!
(Certainly, these will be used as blackmail at some point in his future.)

Sometimes Dexter and I like to just sit and talk about our day.
Or rather, I try to talk really animated in order to invoke as many smiles and giggles as possible.

In honor of the first Packer game of the season, we decided to snap some pictures of Dexter in his cheese hat (thanks, Great Grandma Carol!).
However, despite all my tricks I could not bring a smile to my son’s face while he was sporting the cheese. I may have to accept the fact that at only 2 months old, he has declared himself a Bears fan like Daddy.
This is the best picture from the set:

So many words and phrases have new meaning post-baby: 2am, bottle, sleeping in … keg bucket.
Let me explain – our apartment does not have a bathtub. I naively thought we could bathe our new baby in the kitchen sink until, I don’t know … he was a toddler? Wrong. He grew out of the sink at 6 weeks. In a scramble to find something that resembled a tub, we stumbled across some keg buckets we had.
Bingo!
Dexter’s new bathtub has since been a keg bucket.

Today’s post is a bit delayed because Dexter, i.e. Captain Fussy Pants, could not be settled this morning.
We did the whole rotation: bouncy chair, bottle, changing pad (for whatever reason, he LOVES his changing pad), jungle gym, mobile, walking him around the house … and repeat. Nothing.
Finally, FINALLY I found the magic combination … bottle while watching the mobile. I suppose you could equate this to a movie and nice glass of wine … I should’ve known.
Here is proof of my success:

Last weekend we took our first vacation, just the 3 … err, 5 of us.
That’s right – 2 adults, 2 dogs and 1 baby.
To celebrate a friend’s birthday, a group of 14 of us rented a hacienda in Malinalco. It was beautiful, tranquil and something straight out of a postcard. And then our family showed up.
Chloe got into a “scuffle” with one of the hacienda dogs. Twice. Charlie very happily dropped the balls that flew out of the paddle-ball court into the pool. Every time. And Dexter developed a temporary dislike for his portacrib, which lasted about the duration of the trip. Our friends were kind enough to say they never heard him cry at night. But in a building made of stone and concrete with open-air hallways, I am certain they were just being nice … very nice.
Despite the craziness, we really did have a fantastic weekend. It was so refreshing to get out of the city and spend time with friends.
We even had a chance to snap a few photos (well, OF COURSE we took photos!)
