Loving Bathtime

All babies are just inherently adorable at bathtime, Dexter is certainly not an exception.

No Hands, No Problem

Both hands are need for crawling, but that doesn’t stop Dexter from bringing his toys along for the ride.  Maybe we should get him a little travel pack so he doesn’t have to improvise like this …

Crawling

On Monday, Dexter finally took his very first crawling-in-a-straight-line steps!

For months he has been getting around with his awkward move of scooting/rolling/sitting.  (here)  (here)  and (here)   And his new milestone achievement certainly didn’t come without a few bumps and bruises (here).

Check out this video from a very proud mommy and daddy!

Sleepy Head

When Dexter was first born he would sleep around the clock, especially if we put him in his carseat or stroller.  Dinners out were a breeze – we just made sure he was snuggled in and voi-la … evening out just like the pre-baby days.

That was a short-lived phase.  Now our dinners out with Dex include a quick clearing of the table before a juggling act of eating/trying to keep the steak knife out of his mouth.

JUST KIDDING.

I try to avoid ordering anything that would require a steak knife.  One handed eating – fish, pasta, a sandwich – whatever can easily be waved out of his ever-reaching hands.

And then, just the other day, he fell asleep while we were out.  It was a little unexpected, but very welcomed.  And it made me a tad nostalgic for those itty-bitty Dexter days.

Only 4 days old, the stroller straps covered his whole body.

Sound asleep in his carseat.

He even fell asleep on boat rides.

Cereal, Anyone?

Dexter hasn’t quite gotten a hole-in-one yet when it comes to feeding himself with a spoon, but he’s getting closer.  Usually by the end of the bowl he has given up on the spoon completely.

Bring Your Son to School Day

Bring Your Son to School Day is not an official “day”, but we made it one anyway.  The three of us went down to Dave’s school for his Saturday morning class.  His campus is beautiful and Dex and I enjoyed the sunny courtyard while Daddy was off learning.

Mother to Son

Yesterday a sweet little present came in the mail from my good friend, Jess.  It was a book called Mother to Son and it has little sayings and advice from baby through high school.

The baby quotes made me smile, but the high school quotes made me tear up … I can’t even imagine Dexter all grown up!

In the Beginning

Know that your job in life is to feed him, love him, and point him in the right direction

Be ready for him to wake up hungry. Boys eat more than you can imagine, even as babies.

Keep lots of soft towels handy.  He’s a drooling machine

The Toddler Years

If you want him to listen to you when he’s a teenager, teach him to listen to you now.

He will try to drag a hose from the sandbox to living room.  Discourage this.

Grade School

Walk him to school for as long as he’ll let you

He will want you to feel his muscles.  Tell him he’s a hunk.

Middle School

State in your harshest mother-voice, that under no circumstances, in this lifetime, may he jump off any roof into a pool.

Know that left unattended for one second, however, he will jump off the roof into the nearest pool.

High School

He doesn’t need a radar detector.  If he gets speeding tickets, he needs to slow down.

If he does get a ticket, don’t try to get it fixed.  Send him to court.  Wearing a tie.

Water Glass

Dexter loves to drink from glasses, the only problem is that he much prefers someone else to hold the glass for him.

Dexter’s Colombian blood is shining through …. pan de bono is a new favorite!

Catching Up

Dexter has become quite the pro at Skype chats!  Here he is just catching up with Grandma Linda, Aunt Mikhi, Uncle Marc, and Jetson.
